Is VSH a direct hire or staffing agency?
VSH is a direct-hire agency, not a staffing agency. This means the nurses we recruit become full-time, permanent employees of your healthcare facility from day one. Unlike contract staffing, direct hire provides long-term workforce stability, lower costs over time, and better retention, helping you build a dedicated, high-quality team.
How does the international nurse hiring process work?
At Visa Solutions Healthcare, we handle the entire process for you, start to finish.
You tell us which roles you need to fill, and we take it from there. Our recruiters, based across 5 continents and 100+ countries, source and screen top international nursing talent. We coordinate interviews, manage all credentialing, visa processing, and licensure, and ensure every nurse is fully prepared to join your team.
We also take care of relocation for the new nurses, from flights and housing to banking, transportation, and community integration. Plus, we provide ongoing support to ensure long-term success for both your facility and the nurse.
What are the benefits of hiring international nurses over travel nurses or agency staffing?
Hiring international nurses through VSH’s direct-hire model offers long-term value and stability that agency staffing simply can’t match. With a three-year commitment, direct-hire nurses become fully integrated team members, improving continuity of care, boosting team morale, and reducing turnover. In contrast, travel nurses are short-term and often rotate out, which can disrupt care and increase staffing headaches. Cost-wise, the difference is significant. While a travel nurse can cost up to $70K–$80K more per year than a full-time nurse (due to high hourly rates and agency fees), direct hires offer a far more cost-effective and sustainable solution.
What qualifications do nurses in VSH’s program have?
Nurses in VSH’s program are highly qualified and fully prepared to meet U.S. healthcare standards. Every candidate is pre-screened and vetted, holding a registered nursing credential from a three-year RN training program with at least 2 years of hospital experience. They are fluent in English, currently working in hospital settings, and have strong, verifiable references.
We go a step further by providing NCLEX preparation support and assisting with credentialing and state-specific licensing, so every nurse is ready to deliver high-quality care from day one.
What nursing specialties does VSH recruit?
VSH recruits experienced nurses across all specialties, including high-demand ones like ER, ICU, Med-Surg, OR, Telemetry, NICU, and Pediatrics, as well as long-term care and skilled nursing. Looking for specific expertise? We can source nurses based on your unique staffing needs.
What type of visas do healthcare organizations sponsor for the nurses in VSH’s program? VSH helps healthcare organizations secure top international nursing talent through two primary visa programs:
Who handles the immigration paperwork?
At VSH, we take care of the entire immigration process for your newly hired international nurses. Our in-house Immigration Team works directly with each nurse to collect all necessary documentation and file their visa application. With real-time reporting, your team will always know exactly where every nurse is in the process, from visa filing to arrival. We handle the complexities of credentialing, licensure, and immigration paperwork, making the process efficient and stress-free for your organization.
How long does it take for an international nurse to start working in the U.S.?
The timeline depends on the visa pathway.
EB-3 Visa (Permanent Residency): Usually takes 2-3 years. Factors such as the nurses’ country of origin, the credentialing and licensure process, and changes in U.S. immigration can impact the overall processing time.
TN Visa (For Canadian & Mexican Nurses) – This is a much faster option, with nurses often arriving in as little as 4 to 6 months. Since the TN visa is not subject to annual caps or lengthy processing times, it offers a quick and reliable pathway to start working in the U.S.
Do the nurses in VSH’s program require relocation assistance?
Yes, nurses in VSH’s program require relocation assistance, and we handle it from start to finish.
We cover the cost of international flights, first month’s rent and utilities, and provide a $1,000 stipend to help ease the initial transition.
Beyond covering the essentials, we guide nurses and their families through every step of the relocation process, including arranging for childcare, setting up phone service, opening bank accounts, getting a driver’s license, etc.
Do international nurses stay permanently with their U.S. employer?
Nurses placed through VSH’s direct-hire model commit to a minimum three-year employment agreement with their U.S. healthcare employer, with the option to renew. Many nurses choose to stay long-term or permanently, building lasting careers and strengthening healthcare teams.
How do internationally educated nurses adapt to the U.S. healthcare system and American culture?
VSH provides extensive preparation, including cultural orientation, clinical readiness training, and ongoing support throughout the transition. Our nurses are educated on U.S. healthcare standards, communication practices, and workplace expectations to ensure a smooth and successful adaptation. Through our Learning Management System (LMS), nurses receive targeted clinical skill enhancement and cultural assimilation training during immigration processing. Progress tracking ensures nurses meet high standards.
How do international nurses improve patient care and outcomes?
International nurses bring strong clinical skills, diverse perspectives, and a deep commitment to patient care. Their presence helps reduce staffing shortages, lower burnout among existing staff, improve patient-to-nurse ratios, and enhance the overall quality and consistency of care delivery.
What types of healthcare facilities does VSH work with?
VSH partners with a wide range of healthcare facilities across the U.S., including large medium, small, metropolitan, and rural hospital systems, long-term care, and skilled nursing facilities. We customize our approach to meet the unique staffing needs of each organization.

What visa pathways does VSH offer for hiring international nurses?
We offer three strategic visa options tailored to your nurse staffing needs and timelines: EB-3 Green Card – for long-term, permanent staffing TN Visa – for fast, temporary hiring from Canada and Mexico H-1B Cap-Exempt Visa – for specialized roles at qualifying nonprofit facilities
Which visa is best for long-term RN staffing?
The EB-3 visa is your best option. It allows you to hire international nurses as full-time, permanent employees with no visa renewals needed.
The EB-3 visa is your best option. It allows you to hire international nurses as full-time, permanent employees with no visa renewals needed.
The EB-3 is all about stability. You’re bringing on nurses who will be permanent employees at your facility from day one. It’s cost-effective, helps you build a dedicated team, and supports better patient care because your staff isn’t constantly changing.
Who can sponsor a nurse under the EB-3 visa?
Any U.S. healthcare facility can sponsor nurses under the EB-3 visa. This visa is ideal for hospitals and long-term care facilities looking to reduce turnover and invest in permanent, high-quality clinical staff.
What are the benefits of hiring nurses on the EB-3 visa?
Full-time, permanent RNs from day one No need to renew visas or reprocess sponsorships Lower long-term costs than travel nurses Stronger team cohesion and improved patient outcomes
What should we consider before choosing the EB-3 path?
EB-3 processing takes time, often 24 or more months. It’s a long-term solution, not ideal for urgent gaps. However, it’s highly reliable, with an almost 100% approval rate through our program.
Who can use the TN visa to hire international nurses?
U.S. healthcare facilities can sponsor Canadian or Mexican RNs under the TN visa. It’s a great option if you need to fill roles quickly and meet staffing goals in the short term.
What’s great about the TN visa?
Speed is the big win here. You can have a nurse on board in as little as 3–6 months, and there’s no lottery or annual cap to worry about.
What should I know before choosing the TN visa?
There are a few points to consider. The TN is temporary (up to 3 years at a time), and must be renewed for the nurses to stay longer.
Who can sponsor a nurse on the H-1B Cap-Exempt visa?
This one’s a bit more specialized. It’s only available to non-profit hospitals affiliated with a university, accredited higher education institutions, government research centers, and non-profit research organizations. The job must require a BSN or BSN equivalent (ADN plus 6 years of progressive experience) and be considered a “specialty occupation” such as ICU, OR, Cath Lab, and similar roles.
Why would I use the H-1B Cap-Exempt visa?
If you qualify, it’s a great way to bring in highly skilled nurses quickly, in just 6-12 months. It’s especially useful for filling hard-to-staff specialty roles.
What are the challenges with the H-1B Cap-Exempt visa?
It’s more selective. Not every facility or candidate will qualify, and there’s a higher risk of denial because the requirements are strict. The visa is also temporary and must be renewed every 1–3 years, up to a total of 6 years. But if you’re a fit, it’s a great way to bring specialized nursing talent to your facility quickly.
